DOG OF THE MONTH

February 2007

Submitted by Jennifer Wiesen, Proud Owner of Barley

Barley has been a part of my life for almost seven years.  I picked him up from the breeder at 7 ½ weeks old and he has been fun ever since.  I really enjoy the close bond we have developed.

He is my first agility dog, and has tolerated my learning curve and mistakes extremely well.  We have competed in a number of different venues and done well. Boundless energy seems to be part of his make-up, as he never sits still.  My husband has even given him the nickname of “wigglebutt”. Even though Barley will be seven in May he hasn’t even started to slow down on the agility course.  I hope to enjoy a long career with him.

Barley seems to be a quick study.  He takes no time at all to learn something new for competition or a new trick. He really does enjoy participating in anything, although

agility is his favorite.  Every picture I have of him on an agility course he looks like he is smiling.  (Note the attached montage on my member’s page.) It doesn’t matter what we do as long as he is doing it with me.

He enjoys training and competing in obedience and Rally-0.  We have also taken a Canine Freestyle seminar at which he enjoyed prancing around to the music.  He has also participated in “Meet the Breed” at the Saratoga Racetrack on Memorial Day.  Barley really enjoyed this as he believes people were put on earth just to pet him.

Besides loving agility, Barley’s other favorite things are swimming, camping, hiking and of course balls.  A good game of fetch is always enjoyed.

Barley is a very happy, energetic boy that I look forward to spending as much time as possible with, even if it is just sitting together.
