Congratulations to Julie Mihalcik,
the 2006 recipient of the Spirit of Jazz Award pictured above. The
award was presented at the Annual JAZZ Brunch by Chairperson, Harald
Witting. The award is based on nominations by club members. Some
of the nominations are included below.
Many thanks to Heidi Fuge for the picture at the left. I would like to
nominate Julie Mihalcik for the Spirit of Jazz Award. I feel that she
embodies everything that is recognized by this Award... and more. Julie is one of the unsung heroines of our organization.
It seems that whenever there is something to be done, she is always one of
the first to volunteer. I think that many of us are not aware of all of the
work that she does for the Club, simply because she does it so quietly and
without any fanfare. When it comes to agility, Julie shows a true love of the
sport: how many times have we seen Conifer standing on the top of the
A-Frame, while Julie is standing at the bottom, urging her on with a gentle
“I have cheese!” Her patience and love of her dogs definitely shines
through in this sport. There are not a lot of beagles competing in agility,
and Julie deserves a great deal of credit for working with Conifer and urging
her to become a true competitor. And then there’s Piggy......!
Julie brought her to class without any inkling that she would become the
little agility star that she turned into. Julie is an excellent example of
someone who has maintained a constant positive attitude in our sport, is
willing to help at ALL trials and always enjoys and encourage her dogs. I
feel that she is very deserving of this Award. Julie has always done a great deal for our club and I
would love to see her receive special recognition for it. She takes on an
incredible amount of responsibility; you can always count on her to volunteer
for every club event. Despite how many jobs she has, she always completes
them and never complains. However, more so
than any of this, I feel that Julie deserves the Spirit of JAZZ award for how
she runs her Piggy. Julie sets a shining example with her constant positive
attitude. Regardless if Piggy has a dynamite qualifying run or a total train
wreck, Julie ALWAYS leaves the ring smiling and praising her dog. Julie’s
fun-loving demeanor is contagious -- she exemplifies what agility is all
about: having fun with our dogs. She sets a great example for newcomers to
the sport as well as seasoned agility enthusiasts who sometimes need a
reminder not to get too serious! I feel that she raises the bar for us all. Julie always gives so much of herself to the Club by
assisting at every JAZZ event. Her tireless and ever-present support
and assistance helps the Club provide the opportunities for others to learn,
improve and compete in this sport. Julie has a
wonderful, positive attitude and, in my interactions with her, always lives
up to JAZZ’s “Commitment to My Fellow Club Members”. She is always
enjoyable to be with and has a great sense of humor, making me laugh just
when I need it most. She takes on so much work for the good of the Club
and never complains, even when asked to do more. Her quiet, reserved
personality allows people to overlook just how much she does for the
club. She never asks to be recognized for all that she does and just
keeps giving more. I can only add that
Julie has been deserving of this award for at LEAST the past three
years! In addition to all of the known jobs she has tackled for
the Club, she is also always there to help every individual take down or put
up an EZ-Up, or fetch and carry equipment from the car, etc. First to
arrive -- last to leave – never out of sorts – never an angry word – always
reliable and ready with a laugh – you cannot find a better model -- and we
would be a much poorer group without her. |
